In the coming months BURA and Stadkwadraat BV will be working on the Spatial Economic Plan (REP) for the municipality of The Hague! Like in many other cities in the Netherlands the space for economy in The Hague does not keep pace with the growth of the city’s population.
The shortage of business space leads to a standstill in sustainability, transformation, and renewal in the city coming due to a lack of flexibility. It is also becoming increasingly difficult for existing businesses to expand or for new businesses to establish themselves. Availability of space is crucial for preserving employment for everyone, for the functioning of the city, and for the upcoming transitions in the fields of energy, climate adaptation, mobility, and circularity.
BURA and Stad2, in close collaboration with the municipality of The Hague, will work on a qualitative spatial translation of the spatially relevant economic goals from the ‘Economische Uitvoeringsagenda 2023-2026’, so that informed decisions can be made in weighing various spatial claims for area developments and the Omgevingsvisie. This will result in an overview of types of work environments and work buildings, a project map, a future vision, guiding principles, as well as insight into the feasibility of new concepts.
