New design Europalaan-Noord Merwede!
The Europalaan-Noord in Utrecht has been given a new design. The design by the municipality of Utrecht – in coordination with BURA, LOLA Landscape Architects and the Merwede Quality Team – provides, among other things, a separate bus lane and two bus stops. More plants, shrubs and trees will be planted in the coming months. In the long term, Europalaan will transform into an attractive and easily crossable city avenue with a highly urban character. The new design is an important step for the new Merwede district.
The area will undergo a major metamorphosis in the coming years. The 24 hectare business park will transform into a new car-free city district with a very green public space. There will be new homes, numerous facilities, catering and additional bicycle sheds. Merwede will become a place where living, facilities, working and staying come together in a pleasant way.
As leader of the design team, BURA has been involved in the Merwede development from the start. On behalf of the Owners’ Collective Merwede, we have drawn up the Urban Development Plan and the Visual Quality Plan, and Marco Broekman has been appointed as supervisor. BURA is working together with the Municipality of Utrecht, Mark Rabbie, LOLA Landscape Architects, the Merwede Quality Team, Merwede LAB and various advisors on the creation of this new urban district.
Merwede is a project commissioned by the Owners Collective Merwede: Municipality of Utrecht, Greystar, AM Gebiedsontwikkeling, Synchroon, Lingotto, Janssen de Jong Projectontwikkeling, 3T Vastgoed, BPD Ontwikkeling B.V., G&S Vastgoed, Roundhill and Boelens de Gruyter.
