Hembrug housing construction starts!

On Wednesday 4 September 2024, alderman Wessel Breunesse and Patrick Schlick (Hembrug Zaandam) officially gave the starting signal for the construction of the first 365 homes on the Hembrug site in Zaandam! In the coming years, the Hembrug site in Zaandam, a former military industrial estate with a rich collection of unique buildings and a beautiful forest, will be transformed into a mixed area for living, culture, nature and business.

Approximately 1,100 new homes will be built in the northern part. This week, the piles for the first 260 social rental apartments (designed by Moke Architects and Mix Architectuur, client Rochdale) were driven. And soon, the start will follow on two buildings (designed by LEVS architects, client Bouwinvest), with a total of 105 rental apartments.

We are very proud, because BURA has been involved since the tender phase (2017) and worked on behalf of Hembrug Zaandam BV (a collaboration between ABC Vastgoed, Redevco Living and Ten Brinke) to draw up the Masterplan Hembrug (2021), Urban Development Plan Hembrug Northern Part (2022) and Image Quality Plan Hembrug (2022), in close collaboration with Strootman Landscape Architects and various consultants. We will soon start with the Urban Development Plan Southern Part.
