Good read: Post-Growth City!
More than two years ago, BURA and Crimson Historians & Urbanists started the design research Post-Growth City on their own initiative. The search for spatial concepts and ideas for a more sustainable and just city have now been brought together in an attractive book.
Post-Growth City thinks in a fundamentally different way about the way urban regions should be designed. This involves looking for ways of development in which the dominant influence of economic “growth thinking” is reduced and space is given to other forms of growth. Post-Growth City is not a standard research project, but an exploratory and agenda-setting project, which asks new questions based on social urgency. Post-Growth City explores an essential alternative and a new moral ambition for urban planning.
The result of the research consists of a historical perspective, a diagnosis of the current system, a manifesto with 10 core values, an Action Agenda with a road map and conclusions for the follow-up. We thank the Creative Industries Fund NL for the financial support, the think tank with various experts, but also Flora Nycolaas and Mattijs van Ruijven and colleagues from the City of Amsterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam for the inspiring sessions to reflect our ideas in practice.
If you would like to receive a free PDF of this study, please send an email to pr@bura.city. Tangible proof is also possible, email your name and address details to pr@bura.city and receive a paper version for only €25, including shipping costs. In the near future we will be organizing various events around our research.
