BURA has been working on the Development Perspective Pont tot Park since 2022 on behalf of the municipality of Velsen, Woningbedrijf Velsen, area developer AM and renovation specialist Hemubo. In collaboration with Marlies van Diest Ontwerp, we translated IJmuiden’s ambitions and goals into an attractive story for the city, including a robust and future-proof framework. We respond strategically to the opportunities and dynamics in the various living environments. In doing so, insights from participation with residents and stakeholders in the area were an important part of the process.
An area with spatial qualities, but also a one-sided supply of housing and where tasks such as climate, mobility and energy should also find a place in the renewal. Over the next twenty to thirty years, more different types of housing will be added in the existing city. Facilities will also be strengthened, and public spaces improved. In this way, we will build a sustainable urban future for Pont tot Park.

The dune landscape and reconstruction plan make Pont to Park a unique place. The perspective builds on this. In this way, we stay close to Dudok’s urban design, but also create space for new urban planning solutions. The look and image quality of the new buildings is a modern reference to the brick architecture of the reconstruction period. We shape a coherent streetscape, mark corners and entrances of the buildings and pay extra attention to the experience of city at eye level.
The RingPark is an important new landscape structure, connecting the many green spaces around the city. From canal to estates, and from City Park to Kennemer Dunes. The park offers space for ecology, biodiversity and climate as well as for meeting, accommodation, sports and games. The green-blue framework makes the greenery experienceable in the built environment. In this way, dunes and city are intertwined.
