Densification as enrichment
More than a densification task
By exploring the city of Tilburg and discovering spatial structures with potential for transformation and densification, new structures can be created on a city scale. This urban-scale densification is an exercise, not a design.
Assignment
Research by design assignment, how can densifying Tilburg also give enrichment to the city.

Densification task as potential
Tilburg is growing. The number of people is increasing due to new residents from out of town and growing families. The aim of the municipality is to densify Tilburg before 2040 with 25,000 additional homes. But a city needs more than just housing. How can you enrich a city with a densification task? A liveable city has amenities, high-quality green public space, healthy mobility and a climate-proof design. Densification on this scale offers the city the opportunity to tackle mobility, environmental, health and socio-economic issues.

Development potential Tilburg 2040
The most important locations studied are the South Ring Road, the University Area and the Canal Zone. By researching and sketching at various locations, the images of Tilburg 2040 provide an insight into the development potential and possibilities for enriching Tilburg. The addition of a green city promenade, a north-south route along interesting existing places in the city center, new transferium locations for mobility HUBs and an east-west route from the Oude Warande to the development of the Puishaven, all contribute to enriching the city. The future looks attractive, healthy, green and exciting with a diversity of living, working, recreation and cultural activities.
