Creating sustainable urban environments
BURA works towards a sustainable future and focuses on the urban environment. We approach urban design and landscape architecture from the conviction that we can shape a renewed balance between the humankind, nature and our society. Change is needed as we are reaching the limits of what our planet can cope with. This sometimes requires radical choices. We start from a positive attitude and think about opportunities in the built environment beyond the here and now. We aim for healthy living environments and are committed to a bio-based and nature-inclusive building culture.

Urban design is a profession. BURA specializes in complex assignments at the intersection of social issues and spatial challenges. We work towards innovative and integral solutions with an open and exploratory attitude. Our strength lies in uniting ambitions, feasibility and advanced design. This demands insight into the spatial, financial and organizational context of each project. We make complex situations understandable and shape the process with great care. We do this by using GIS, data, parametric design and software for designing and calculating. They enable us to design attractive cities, landscapes and public spaces where people enjoy living, working and relaxing.

Developing cities and regions is a continuous process. Changes over time are part of an ongoing story which makes unique place. BURA is interested in the identity of a site and so we start form the existing qualities and builds on the context of the city and its inhabitants.
Existing buildings are given a new function, characteristic spatial elements are preserved, and new additions enrich the character of the place. The result is an experience of the different time layers on sites that are closely interwoven with its surroundings. We act with the understanding that everything we do affects future generations. This is how we work on a liveable city – for today and tomorrow.
